Meghalaya — the Abode of Clouds — rewards travellers who seek something genuinely different. This seven-day premium itinerary covers the state’s most spectacular corners: Shillong’s hill town energy, the mighty waterfalls of Cherrapunji (the wettest place on Earth), the extraordinary Double Decker Living Root Bridge, the crystal-clear Umngot River at Dawki, and the famously spotless Mawlynnong village. Ideal for curious travellers, nature lovers, and anyone ready to be surprised by how beautiful Northeast India really is.
Day 1 — Guwahati to Shillong: Pickup from Guwahati Airport or Railway Station. Stop at Umiam Lake (Barapani) — beautiful and scenic. Check-in at your Shillong hotel. Evening walk through Police Bazar, Shillong’s lively market hub.
Day 2 — Shillong Sightseeing: Shillong Peak (panoramic views over the city), Elephant Falls (three-tiered cascade), Ward’s Lake, and Don Bosco Museum (one of the finest cultural museums in Northeast India). Local cafes and shopping.
Day 3 — Cherrapunji Excursion: Drive to Cherrapunji. Visit Nohkalikai Falls (India’s tallest plunge waterfall), the Seven Sisters Falls viewpoint, Mawsmai Cave (stalactite and stalagmite formations), and the Eco Park viewpoints.
Day 4 — Living Root Bridge Trek: The highlight many travellers cite as the trip’s best day. Descend to the Double Decker Living Root Bridge — two bridges grown from living fig tree roots over centuries, layered above a clear stream. A genuine natural wonder.
Day 5 — Dawki: The Glass River: Drive to Dawki and take a boat on the Umngot River — the water is so transparent the boats appear to float on glass. Visit the Indo-Bangladesh border viewpoint at Tamabil.
Day 6 — Mawlynnong Village: Asia’s cleanest village — spotlessly maintained, charming, and genuinely beautiful. Climb the Sky Walk bamboo structure for views over the plains of Bangladesh. Balancing Rock and village experience.
Day 7 — Departure: Breakfast, check-out, and transfer back to Guwahati Airport or Railway Station.
The trek involves a steep descent and ascent (approximately 3,500 steps in total). It's manageable for reasonably fit individuals. Allow 3–4 hours. We recommend comfortable trekking shoes and carrying water.
Yes — the waterfalls are at their most dramatic and the greenery is stunning. However, roads can be slippery and some viewpoints may be misty. October to May offers the most reliable conditions.
The Umngot River is clearest in winter (October–April). During monsoon, silt from rain reduces visibility. We'll advise the best time based on your travel dates.
